Last Friday, my front tire went flat on the way to a restaurant down the street. Lucky for me, my boyfriend ever-so-conveniently works at a bike shop and aired it up in no time. That little incident led to yet another discussion about buying a new bike altogether.
Don’t get me wrong, I like my current bike—it’s a cute red Schwinn road bike, built in the 80s, with white grip tape and a rear metal basket—and nothing’s wrong with it. I’ve neglected my poor bike lately for several trifling reasons: I work 48 hours a week, it’s 100 degrees outside, I want to write in this blog, etc. Riding my bike is one of my absolute favorite things to do, though, so it’s time to get off the couch and start peddling.
That being said, I sure would like gears and a lighter frame so I could zip around town without breaking such a sweat. The boyfriend mentioned a few brands carried at his shop, so I started googling and quickly came across this beauty:
Meet the Electra Ticino 8d ladies’ bicycle in winter mint. It has gears. It’s lightweight. It’s made for comfortable cruising. It’s built in “classic French constructeur style” (bien sûr). And it is perfect.
Believe it or not, the bike shop has precisely this bike in stock. I get a steep discount on retail, but unfortunately, it’s still expensive. Very expensive. C’est la vie, n’est-ce pas?
