Perhaps it’s because I haven’t had my passport stamped in so long, but I’m fiending for some global decor. As in globes and world maps.
Last fall, I visited a home in Fort Worth that had a large collection of globes on display along a tall shelf, and I’m still stuck on the idea. I don’t have a picture of their collection, but this photo from Apartment Therapy expresses the look well:
I haven’t ever run across a fantastic vintage globe at a thrift store before, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled for one (or five). I could always buy one from eBay or etsy like this one:

I would also love to display a world map in my living room. I have a large blank wall behind my couch that’s practically begging for this hand painted map from CB2:
CB2 one of a find world map painting
Each of the 576 limited edition maps was hand painted on canvas by an “almost extinct community of Bollywood artists”. I’m generally turned off by mass produced art from large retailers, but I’d make an exception for this piece. I can see myself hanging onto it for a very long time. At $129, the map would be a definite splurge, but it really would complete my living room. I’ve been working so much overtime that I could afford it and I’m so tired of staring at that blank wall, so what do you think? Should I take the plunge?
CB2 also offers hanging rails so you can mount the map to the wall, but a lot of reviewers have had it framed. I wish I could see a photo of a framed map; I’m not crazy about the metal rails. I’m not sure how much framing would cost either. Any thoughts? Should I give up on this one and wait around for some vintage globes to come my way? I’m torn.

Dear Kate,
Your post is over a year old but I couldn’t help but wonder if you ever did get the map. As no one left a comment I thought I should be the first one. I think getting a frame would be smarter as it will protect the map much better.
Also, I just want to say that your blog is one of the only food-blogs that I love following. I’ve just found it today but I’ve read back all the way to this post! Keep doing what you’re doing, you’re really great at it :)
Best wishes,
Mabel

Thank you so much for your comment, Mabel! I’m glad you found my blog. Yes, I did buy that map, and I’m so glad I did. I’m actually sitting on my couch, right below the map. I bought the hanging kit from CB2, which works well enough. Maybe someday I’ll get it framed!
