To celebrate my first day of funemployment, my friend Matt came over and cooked omelets with fresh asparagus and tomato from the farmer’s market. I can’t tell you how nice it is to enjoy a leisurely lunch at home with good company, after months of eating under florescent office lights.
No commemorative brunch would be complete without mimosas, of course. We mixed orange juice and grapefruit juice with cheap champagne since I am, after all, voluntarily jobless for two weeks.
I certainly deserved a mimosa after Cookie’s escapade earlier this morning. I took her to her annual vet exam (she’s healthy!), then stopped by Wal-Mart to grab some potting soil and eggs.
When I opened my car door to get back inside, Cookie bolted. She ran through the parking lot as I raced after her, clutching a carton of eggs to my chest. She turned at the entrance and, much to the bemusement of a four-year-old boy, ran past him into the store. Panting, I chased her down the greeting card aisle, past the jewelry and through the men’s clothing section.
Finally, she stopped long enough near a register for me to grab her collar. I scooped her up and carried her under one arm; the eggs, which were all miraculously unbroken, under the other. The customers and employees got a good chuckle.
Perhaps this is what I get for shopping at Wal-Mart. I know better.
Cookie is lucky she’s so cute. Otherwise, I’d be mad. Have I mentioned she can run 25 miles an hour?

Yum-E! Cookie’s misbehaving definitely calls for a mimosa–my absolute favorite with a scrumptious breakfast!
